Last month the UNSW’ Society of Orchestra and Pipers (SOAP) voted in their incoming 2025 Executive. SOAP is the student-run collective associated with the university’s Large Instrumental Music Ensembles (LIME), namely the UNSW Orchestra and UNSW Wind Symphony. It was established during Colin Piper’s reign as orchestra conductor, hence the use of ‘Piper’ in the name, alluding to brass and woodwinds.
The SOAP Executive is comprised of eight members with Ernest Quah returning as President for a second year running. Ernest is currently in his third-year of a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Politics and International Relations & Music Studies). Ernest is an enthusiastic percussionist who has been playing since primary school and now performs in both the UNSW Orchestra and Wind Symphony. He also moonlights as stage manager and production assistant at multiple UNSW events and performances.
We’ll be hearing from all the SOAP Executive Members in the coming months, but for now let’s give a warm welcome to:
President – Ernest Quah
Vice-President (Wind Symphony) – Alex Yuen
Vice-President (Orchestra) – Josh Chan
Secretary – Parsa Rahmanseresht
Treasurer – Ethan Yan
Arc Delegate – Joean Sun
Marketing and Events Coordinator – Patrick Yang
