The Music Performance Unit is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Timothy Wayne-Wright. Tim will serve as Academy Director in Residence, working closely with Choral Director Sonia Maddock, and UNSW’s elite chamber choir, Corde. With an impressive career as the former countertenor of the Grammy-winning British a cappella group, The King's Singers, and as the founder of The A Cappella Academy, along with his role as a Choral consultant for Ukaria, Tim brings a wealth of experience.
Drawing on his internationally acclaimed career, Tim will guide and elevate our singers to the next level through a series of online workshops that complement our existing choral program. Beyond refining vocal technique and expanding the vocal colour palette, Tim specialises in imparting the art of performance, empowering and inspiring singers to showcase their very best on stage.
We are delighted to welcome Tim back to UNSW! This collaboration marks a significant and unique partnership for our community. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements as this exciting musical journey unfolds!
Statement from Timothy Wayne-Wright
When I arrived at UNSW in September last year to teach the inaugural A Cappella Academy in this state, I realised immediately that it was a very unique place to study and grow as a musician. The facilities are first-rate and I was so impressed by the incredibly high level of classical music concerts happening on campus, produced by the marvellous and dedicated Music Performance Unit. Sonia and Eleasha have created a buzzing choral programme, and I'm totally delighted and inspired to now be Academy Director in Residence. I'll be leading online ensemble coaching and delivering the 2024 UNSW A Cappella Academy, in-person, later this year. Excited is an understatement!
