Having studied Music and Music Education at UNSW, Sonia immediately began working with the MPU in various roles, becoming Manager in 2003. At this time, Sonia also took on the additional role of Choral Director of the Collegium Musicum Choir and Burgundian Consort, having been members of both ensembles during the previous ten years.
Sonia is a classical guitarist and has been a member of several choirs in Sydney, and has also undertaken additional studies in business and management while working at UNSW. In 2014-15, Sonia completed the inaugural Professional Women in Leadership program at UNSW, and in 2016 was appointed to the new role of Director, Music, Art and Culture in the portfolio of Campus Life and Community Engagement.
In 2017, she was fortunate to complete the 'Leading Culture in the 21st Century' program at King's College, London. In 2018, Sonia's role was reconfigured to be Head of Cultural Networks and Communities, which includes overseeing the Music Performance Unit, UNSW Art Unit, cultural projects and events, and the Religious Centre.
